It has been a year since the credit meltdown and the collapse of investment banker, Lehman Brothers. The question remains about whether cronyism kept their competitors alive of if the likes of Goldman Sachs should have been allowed to face bankruptcy court, too.
Many banks are beginning to look better financially. We will look at some of the remaining underlying issues in the banking system that continues to place depositors and the FDIC, and therefore taxpayers, at risk.
There is good news pending for investors, specifically Bank of America shareholders. A judge has ruled against the SEC for unjustifiably penalizing shareholders for the misdeeds of management. There may be justice yet for millions of other investors who were cleaned out by poor management decisions in publicly held corporations.
Real estate vacancies are beginning to surface in the commercial, office building and large apartment building arenas. We will bring you up-to-date with some of the latest developments.
Our government is threatening some of our economic partners with trading barriers. This development damages both economies and can easily spiral out of control with retaliatory actions.
We will look at recent developments in the stock and bond markets as the technical issues seem to be in conflict with the fundamentals of long-term investing.
The final segment will be our monthly income tax update will be covering capital gains taxes and impending changes in the estate tax.
